GENERAL INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIETNAM COFFEE INDUSTRY Coffee trees was tested by the French scientists to plant in Vietnam since 1857, in early 20th Century, coffee trees were developed in some French plantations, and until 1930, there was about 6,000 ha of coffee tree with the output of about 3,500 tons. Up to 1975, the coffee area of the country is about 15,000 ha with the output of about 7,000 tons.From 1980 to 1990, coffee industry was developed strongly thanks to the Cooperation Agreement with the Former Soviet Union, Republic of Germany, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, up to 1990, the coffee area of our country reached 119,000 ha with the output of 90,000 tons. From 1995, thanks to the impacts of the increase in coffee price in the world and the encouragement policies, the coffee area was increased quickly. Up to 2010, the whole country had about 500,000 ha with the output of about 1 million tons of coffee. The coffee area of Vietnam is from the households - more than 80%, with small-scaled production of about 1 - 3 ha/household. The area of coffee of the state-owned companies is about 20% with the area of about 500 - 1000 ha/company.Coffee export results of Vietnam in the recent years:
