Vung Tau Revolutionary Traditional House is located at No. 1 Ba Cu Street, Ward 1, Vung Tau City. Previously, the building was also known as Dinh Quan Nam Phap. The villa is built in a huge area of 6580 m2, and the floor area of the main house is 777 m2 and the annex is 140 m2. This is a building designed in the style of French office architecture: 2-storey house, high steps, spacious corridors, windows on four sides and insulated lime straw ceilings…, fully equipped with amenities.
In the former villa area, there was an affiliated Staff Office called Etat Major, which was a regular place for French officers to work.
By 1945, along with the historical upheavals of the entire Indochina, Dinh Quan Nam Phap’s fate began to change, and the villa began to have new owners.
After August 25, 1945, the military commander at that time and all the French officers under his command who lived and worked at Dinh Quan were taken to Saigon. Since then,Dinh Quan Nam Phap officially became the headquarters of the Viet Minh Committee of Vung Tau Township.
The Viet Minh Committee, where the first National Assembly election ballot box was held on January 6, 1946, mobilized all classes of people to elect the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The Viet Minh Committee has a very special historical significance for the local revolutionary process, and has been the leader and organizer for the people of Vung Tau to preserve the government, build the material and spiritual facilities of a new regime, together with the people to fight hunger and ignorance and prepare for the
long-term resistance war against the French.
On February 9, 1946, France returned to recapture Ba Ria and Vung Tau. Many examples of extremely heroic fighting and sacrifice have encouraged the resistance war against the French of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau army and people during this period.
After April 30, 1975, the Viet Minh headquarters relic was converted to serve a peaceful life, for peple to have fun and enjoy life when it is no longer related to the army and guns.
In 1991, the headquarters of the Viet Minh Committee was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information as a national historical relic and renamed as Vung Tau Revolutionary Traditional House.
Vung Tau Revolutionary Traditional House is the headquarters of Vung Tau City Center for Culture, Information and Sports. The two floors of the Revolutionary Traditional House are used as a library, a place for exhibitions and meetings. On the floor is a gallery of photos and historical documents.
In October 2013, the library activities in the building were transferred to No. 91 Ly Thuong Kiet so that the People’s Committee of Vung Tau City carried out the procedures to restore the old villa.
On November 16, 2016, the project began construction, and on May 4, 2017, it was completed and today is a gorgeous building on Vung Tau Front Beach, worthy of its own stature.
Vung Tau Revolutionary Traditional House is not only a precious ancient architectural work and traces of the development process of the Viet Minh Party Committee in Vung Tau City, but also associated with the ups and downs of the city. The story of a building is also the story of a part of the history of Vung Tau, nested in the context of the general history of the country that the previous generation needs to preserve for the next generation.
