More than eighty years ago, the first coffee trees rooted on Buon Ma Thuot highland, opening a development history of a spearhead industry which creates reputation for a geographic region with rich tradition on coffee. Truly, Buon Ma Thuot coffee has become well-known in the country and overseas thank to its superior quality to other Robusta in the world originated from advantages on ecological and agricultural conditions of the geographical region:Suitable temperature range, high temperature difference between day and night during coffee fruits%u2019 ripening. The altitude of 400 - 600 m above sea level is ideal for the requirement of Robusta coffee-Sufficient rainfall during fruits development and beans formation.-Fertile soil from basaltic origin with deep layer, ideal physical features and high natural fertility. -Coffea canephora var. Robusta has higher quality than var. Kouillou.Specific natural conditions and tradition, skills of people on this geographical region have created differented quality and the reputation of Buon Ma Thuot coffee. Therefore, Buon Ma Thuot GI for Robusta coffee was recognised and protected by Vietnam%u2019s State and became the national asset in October 2005 with the area of the geographical region of more than 107,000 hectares in Dak Lak province.
