The Buddhist Church realized in 1962 that Thien Lam Tu was located in a beautiful natural scenery, a prime area for gathering sacred energy, and a convenient transportation hub for monks and Buddhists from all over the world; thus, a large-scale construction project of Thien Lam Tu into Thich Ca Phat Dai was commenced. After more than 19 months of construction, on February 15th, 1963, Thich Ca Phat Dai was inaugurated with an architectural complex built based on the story of the life of Shakyamuni Buddha and always preserved and renovated to this day.
With the image of a three-level tower from 3 metersto 29 metersabove sea level, Thich Ca Phat Dai grips visitors right from the first tower, which is a memorial to Giac Phap Monk, Mr. Le Quang Vinh, who built Thien Lam Tu; Thich Ca Phat Dai continues to soften people’s hearts by a path leading to the higher tower where there is a majestic cliff on the left, and there is a vast space of Nua-Long Son Mountain in the distance on the right ; and also in the distance, there is an oil and gas port with cranes rising proudly overlooking the streets, houses and Ben Dinh and Ben Da fishing villages right at the foot of the mountain.
That amazing arc will take visitors up to a height of 25 meters at any time. A sculptural space stretches out before visitors to tell them the story of Shakyamuni Buddha’s life, from his birth to his passing into Nirvana.
The tower of Thich Ca Phat Dai is holding the remains of the Buddha, which is the great happiness of Vietnamese Buddhists. For this alone, Thich Ca Phat Dai is deemed as a typical Buddhist work of Vung Tau and Vietnam. Along with the breath-taking natural scenery, elaborate Buddhist works and sculptures, from the tower of Thich Ca Phat Dai, visitors can see the fishing port and the prosperous Vung Tau scenery. Thich Ca Phat Dai is a place that visitors will feel very regretful if they have not been able to see it once.
